The television anime "Shabake" will finally be broadcast on the Fuji TV network's "Noitamina" slot starting at 23:30 on Friday, October 3rd. A preview screening of the first and second episodes, along with a talk show, was held at a theater in Tokyo.
The original work is a historical fantasy novel "Shabake" by Megumi Hatakenaka, published by Shinchosha. The novel won the 13th Japan Fantasy Novel Award for Excellence and has become a massive bestseller with over ten million copies sold in the series. This Edo period yokai detective story has been adapted into various media, including drama, comics, and stage plays, and has finally been turned into a TV anime. The animation is produced by BN Pictures, known for their work on the "Aikatsu!" series and "Gintama" series, with a team of up-and-coming staff members.
In its 25th anniversary year, this commemorative anime adaptation will begin airing every Friday at 23:30 on the Fuji TV network's "Noitamina" starting October 3rd, with exclusive unlimited streaming available on Prime Video every Saturday at 0:00 starting October 4th.
The main cast of three appeared on stage: Daiki Yamashita, who plays Ichitarō; Kōji Okino, who plays Nikichi; and Taku Yashiro, who plays Sasuke.
When asked about the opening and ending themes, Yamashita mentioned, "Since hearing it in the PV, the catchy part 'Nagai Tabiji♪' really sticks in your head," referring to the opening theme "Inochi no Parade" by Kujira. Yashiro added, "Sometimes one of us starts humming it, and before we know it, all three of us are singing," to which the MC Mori confirmed, "This is true." Yamashita noted the contrast with the ending theme "Myaku-Myaku" by KAFUNE, saying, "In contrast, the ending has this dark night atmosphere." Okino then performed a notable line from the song, "Be careful on the night road," drawing applause from the audience. Yamashita playfully remarked, "You really want to say that," to which Okino responded with enthusiasm, "To have that line fit so perfectly...! I've never composed music, but to put a line there...!"
As the anime was finally set to air, Yamashita expressed his excitement, "I'm just so happy for people to finally be able to watch it! It may not have been long since you heard 'Shabake' would be broadcast, but we actually recorded the voice work quite a while ago, so we're finally, finally, finally able to share it with you!" Okino added, "Yes, I'm really happy too. People can finally watch this work, and the memories of those voice recording sessions come flooding back, which makes me very happy."
