The anime Gintama is based on the highly popular manga by Hideaki Sorachi. The original manga was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump (Shueisha) and other publications from 2003 to 2019, recording over 73 million copies in worldwide circulation (including digital editions). As an exhilarating entertainment package filled with gags, fierce action, and themes of human compassion and bonds, it was adapted not only into a TV anime and theatrical animated films but also live-action movies, which received critical acclaim.
