Chiikawa is a popular manga series by illustrator Nagano, which began serialization on X (formerly Twitter) in 2020. It won the Grand Prix at both the "Japan Character Award 2022" and the "Japan Character Award 2024" announced in July 2024. The series has amassed over 4.45 million followers to date, captivating a wide range of fans—from children to adults—with the stark contrast between its "small and cute" characters and its surprisingly harsh world-building.
The new series of the Chiikawa anime is currently airing during the "Mezamashi TV" segment on the Fuji TV network. Furthermore, the franchise's first theatrical feature, Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu, is scheduled for release in Summer 2026.
