The film That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea is set to hit theaters on February 27th. This marks the second feature film for the Tensura franchise, ahead of the eagerly anticipated Season 4 of the TV anime airing in April 2026. The story begins with Rimuru and his friends visiting a resort island to enjoy a hard-earned vacation following the conclusion of the Founder's Festival depicted in Season 3.

The story unfolds as Rimuru and his friends encounter Yura, a shrine maiden from the undersea kingdom of "Kaien," and embark on a mission to save her. While the visuals of the Tempest crew in their swimwear are certainly a highlight, a key point that Tensura fans won't want to miss is Gobta taking center stage and playing a major role in this film.

In this article, we interviewed Miho Okasaki, the voice of Rimuru, to discuss the highlights of the story and the undeniable charm of Gobta.

——I had the chance to see it at a private screening, and it’s really a story where Gobta plays a major role, isn't it?

Okasaki: When I first heard that the second movie would be an original story, I was told right away, "Gobta is going to play a huge part!" From that moment on, seeing Gobta in action became a "confirmed fact" in my mind, and I was so excited for it.

——With that in mind, what were your first impressions when you actually read the script?

Okasaki: I was genuinely shocked because it depicts elements we’ve never seen in Tensura before. I couldn’t imagine Gobta and the movie’s original character, Yura, developing a "vibe" together—I was like, "Wait, our Gobta!?" (laughs). But as I kept reading, I realized they actually click quite well, and by the end, I was so moved that I even got a little misty-eyed.

——The film features everything from action sequences set in the resort area centered around Gobta, to truly spectacular scenes involving the undersea kingdom of Kaien.

Okasaki: At first, Gobta acts alongside Yura while harboring suspicions that she might pose a threat to Rimuru and the others. But as they spend time together, they gradually learn about each other's circumstances. He goes through this emotional tug-of-war where he wants to help her, yet knows he shouldn't get too deeply involved. I felt that this movie truly lives up to its title, offering a different kind of experience compared to the first film, Scarlet Bond.
