In Episode 34 of the anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," which aired on February 27th, Genau (CV: Tarusuke Shingaki) told a lie to reassure his childhood friend whose life could no longer be saved, and online responses such as "How kind," and "He seems cold, but the fact that he has emotions is truly heartbreaking" poured in.
In Episode 34, "Extermination Request," Genau, who was an examiner for the first-class mage examination, reappeared. Genau visited his hometown after receiving an extermination request, but the village had already been attacked by demons and was completely annihilated.
In the midst of this, he found a childhood friend who was still breathing, and Genau carried him on his back. When his childhood friend asked with his dying breath, "What about everyone in the village?", Genau paused for a moment before responding, "They're safe. Everyone is safe," and "You'll be saved too. A new first-class mage came with me."
Furthermore, in the anime, additional scenes were added where Genau continued to talk to his childhood friend, who had been a baker's son, saying things like "So, have you gotten any better at baking bread?" and "At this point, I don't care if it's freshly baked. Leftovers are fine, or even failures like the old days. I'm not being picky..." These additions created scenes that gave more glimpses into their relationship.
Then Genau brought his childhood friend to his companion Methode (CV: Reina Ueda). However, his childhood friend had already passed away, and Genau told Methode, "When I found him, he was already beyond saving."
