![[Photos/Images] A Deep Dive into Akane's Essay! Anime "Akane-banashi" Ep 1 Overflowing with Original Scenes: "Incredible Supplement to the Source," "Truly Heart-Wrenching" 1st](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/6/5/724w/img_656c18b7ea22efe013b16570534866a8449656.jpg)
The new anime Akane-banashi officially began its broadcast on April 4. From the very first episode, the production featured numerous anime-original (aniori) depictions. During the promotion exam scene for Rakugo performer Tohru Osaki (CV: Jun Fukuyama)—known by his stage name "Shinta Arakawa"—the story took an emotional turn by weaving in an essay written by his daughter, Akane Osaki (CV: Anna Nagase), at the perfect moment. Fans were electrified by this original direction that elevated the emotional weight of the source material, with comments like "Simply divine" and "I didn't expect the essay to hit this hard here!"
In Episode 1, "That Day," Shinta challenges the promotion exam for Shinnuchi (the highest master rank in Rakugo). However, he initially finds himself overwhelmed by the unusually tense atmosphere of the audience. It is only when he notices his daughter, Akane, in the seats that he remembers how much she respects him as a storyteller.
Regaining his stride, Shinta began to perform the masterpiece "Shibahama," leaning into his own unique style. In the final act, the anime featured an original sequence where the contents of Akane's school essay were narrated, reflecting the love she carries for her father: "The person I respect. Class 5-3, Akane Osaki. The person I respect most in this world is my Dad." This transitioned beautifully into Akane’s words: "My Dad's dream is to become a Shinnuchi. My dream is also for him to become a Shinnuchi. I love my Dad!" which directly led into Shinta’s internal monologue: "Akane loved a man like me... Today, I will become a Shinnuchi!"
In the original manga, Akane's essay is not depicted during this specific scene, and the content itself was expanded for the anime. On social media, viewers were moved to tears, posting reactions such as: "A brilliant anime-original touch that really pulls at the heartstrings," "What a payoff for the essay!" and "Adding the essay here was a god-tier move."
Furthermore, Episode 1 included several other anime-exclusive elements, such as an additional closing line to "Shibahama" and a visual overlap of Shinta’s wife, Masaki Osaki (CV: Shizuka Ito), during the scene where he channels her to portray a female character. Fans were delighted by these creative choices, praising the episode with comments like "The supplemental scenes are unreal" and "Every original addition was perfect."
