Akane-banashi is based on the popular manga currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha), written by Yuki Suenaga and illustrated by Takamasa Moue. The story follows Akane, who has been captivated by Rakugo since childhood while watching her father, Shinta, a hanashika. After witnessing a shocking incident during her father’s life-changing Shinuchi exam, Akane sets out on her own journey to reach the rank of Shin'uchi—the highest level in the Rakugo world.

[Synopsis]
Fifth-grader Akane Osaki is enchanted by the "magic" of Rakugo as she watches her father, the storyteller Shinta Arakawa a hanashika. Shinta, supported by his family, challenges the promotion exam for the highest rank, Shinuchi. While Shinta displays his true skill under the watchful eyes of Akane and the audience, the exam reaches a shocking conclusion that no one could have predicted.
