The anime "Akane-banashi" is based on the popular manga currently serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), written by Yuki Suenaga and illustrated by Takamasa Moue. The story follows Akane, who has been fascinated by rakugo since childhood after watching her father, Tōru Ōsaki (CV: Jun Fukuyama)—known by his stage name "Shinta Arakawa." After witnessing a shocking incident at a major performance where her father was vying for promotion to the highest rank of "Shin'uchi," Akane begins her own journey to reach the top of the rakugo world.

[Synopsis]
Having finished her first stage performance and feeling inspired by Kaisei Arakawa, Akane joins the Shiguma school as an apprentice. Shiguma introduces her to a group of unique senior disciples, and the serious-minded Kyoji Arakawa is put in charge of her training. While Akane is fired up to hone her craft, Kyoji assigns her nothing but chores. Furthermore, she finds herself training in a most unexpected location...
