"Chiikawa" is a popular manga that illustrator Nagano has been posting on X (formerly Twitter) since 2020. It won the "Japan Character Award 2022" and went on to win the Grand Prix for two consecutive years at the "Japan Character Award 2024" and "Japan Character Award 2025". The gap between the small, cute characters and the harsh reality of their world has gained widespread popularity among both adults and children, with its followers now exceeding 4.62 million.
The "Chiikawa" anime is currently broadcasting within the Fuji TV network's "Mezamashi TV" every Tuesday and Thursday at around 7:36 AM. In addition, "Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island", the first-ever theatrical release for "Chiikawa", is scheduled to premiere on July 24, 2026.
