The anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" is also captivating for its anime-original scenes found throughout. In the first episode of the second season, battle scenes featuring the party of Hero Himmel (CV: Nobuhiko Okamoto) were significantly expanded, becoming a hot topic with fans saying, "The animation is incredible!" and "What is this movement!?"
The anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," currently available for streaming, is based on the manga of the same name by writer Kanehito Yamada and illustrator Tsukasa Abe, serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday." Set in a world "after" the Demon King has been defeated, it tells the story of an elven mage, Frieren (CV: Atsumi Tanezaki), who has lived for over 1,000 years, as she embarks on a "journey to understand people."
The original manga, which has surpassed 35 million copies in circulation, has won numerous awards, including the "Manga Taisho 2021," the "25th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize" New Creator Prize, the "69th (2023) Shogakukan Manga Award," and the "48th Kodansha Manga Award" in the Shonen category. The first season of the TV anime aired starting in September 2023, followed by the second season in January 2026. It has also been announced that the third season, "Golden Land Arc," will begin broadcasting in October 2027.
In Episode 29, the premiere of the second season, Frieren’s party faced a massive monster in a situation where magic could not be used. Despite being unable to use magic and therefore being defenseless, Frieren remained calm. Stark (CV: Chiaki Kobayashi), a warrior, questioned Frieren on why she could entrust her life to a coward like himself.
