[Photos/Images] "Speechless" and "The Tension Is Unreal"! Fans Stunned by "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" Illustrator's Skill! "Nippon Sangoku" Visual Features the Standoff Between "Dragon and Tiger" Mitsuhide Ryūmon and Ōga Wajima 1st

The official X account for "Nippon Sangoku The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun" has unveiled a new episode illustration, and its overwhelming quality is generating massive buzz.

The newly posted piece is themed around Episode 8, "The Decisive Battle of Dragon and Tiger." This illustration was created by Keiji Hida, an illustrator renowned for his deep and powerful artistic touch, who has also worked on the main visuals for the smash-hit historical simulation games "Romance of the Three Kingdoms 14" and "Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake."

The artwork features an epic visual of two individuals standing before a background reminiscent of golden fusuma (sliding door) paintings and folding screens. On the left stands Ōga Wajima (voiced by Minami Tsuda), wearing a green coat and holding a bow with a massive tiger behind her. On the right, facing off against her, is the white-haired Mitsuhide Ryūmon (voiced by Kazuhiro Yamaji) in a military uniform, brandishing a katana with a powerful dragon at his back. At the bottom, detailed backgrounds of modern skyscrapers and railway bridges are meticulously rendered, creating a breathtaking composition that blends traditional Japanese style with a near-future aesthetic.

The anime "Nippon Sangoku The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun" is a fictional war chronicle set in a near-future Japan after the collapse of civilization. It depicts the Japanese archipelago hundreds of years in the future, which declined at the end of the 21st century due to repeated disasters and reverted into a warring states period where three nations clash for supremacy. The protagonist, Aoteru Misumi (voiced by Kenshō Ono), lives in a remote village and utilizes "eloquence"—mastered through logic and passion—as his weapon rather than overwhelming military might, using his wit to the fullest as he charges toward the reunification of Japan in this profound narrative.

In response to this post, fans have flooded social media with admiration for the incredible artistry, leaving comments such as: "I was like, 'Wow, this is amazing!' and then realized it's the artist who did the Romance of the Three Kingdoms box art...", "Made it my wallpaper instantly. It's so good I want to frame it," "It's just too good... I'm speechless. Truly breathtaking," "The tension is unreal," and "It's sad that this painting won't be designated as a national treasure."
