The 10th episode of the anime "Daemons of the Shadow Realm," based on the latest work by smash-hit manga artist Hiromu Arakawa, known for "Fullmetal Alchemist," has been broadcasting sequentially since June 6. A unique battle scene utilizing modern weapons against "Tenaga-Ashinaga," a pair of daemons that also appear in ancient Japanese folklore, thrilled many viewers.
In Episode 10, "Tenaga and Ashinaga," Yuru (CV: Kenshō Ono) and his companions fought against Tenaga-Ashinaga. Tenaga-Ashinaga are vicious, man-eating daemons that had been sealed for many years in Mount Byōnou (now Mount Bandai) by a traveling monk. Since legends of giants with the same name exist all over Japan, many viewers likely felt a sense of familiarity, thinking, "I've heard of them!"
Dera, also known as Ryū Tadera (CV: Yūichi Nakamura), countered Tenaga-Ashinaga as they launched a fierce attack by writhing their abnormally long limbs. While handguns could not inflict much damage, rifle attacks seemed to work. Dera, who blew off the head of Ashinaga (CV: Shigeru Chiba), muttered contentedly, "Oh, it's working, it's working." Peering through his scope, he added, "Since you've been sealed deep in the mountains for a long time and only recently returned to the present world, you probably don't know about weapons like this."
The fierce battle utilizing modern weapons became a hot topic online, with comments such as, "It might be a bit unexpected that modern weapons are effective against daemons too," "I actually quite like that modern firearms are effective even against monsters, lol," and "Sniping is so romantic." Furthermore, reactions poured in regarding the performance of Dera, who is usually aloof: "Dera-san using a gun shows such an irresistible professional taste," and "His sharp gaze when looking through the scope is irresistible."
