Cast & Production Comments

"Fool Night" is a work that depicts humans living on a future Earth that has become a harsh environment. One of them, Tōshirō Kamiya, wishes for something amidst his struggles to make a living. To express his complex emotional shifts, I challenged myself with various expressions in each episode. I hope many people will watch the anime "Fool Night."

Minako Kotobuki
I am Minako Kotobuki, and I will be voicing Yomiko Hōrai. I was captivated by the intense world of "Fool Night" drawn by Yasuda-sensei and Director Yukawa's sense right from the audition, to the point where I felt I would have no regrets if I could fully portray Yomiko in this work. It is an honor to play Yomiko now. Yomiko loves to eat and seems like an ordinary person at first glance, but as someone working as a Tenka employee, the shape of her heart might be warped somewhere after all. Because the happiness we feel and the happiness Yomiko and the others feel are surely different, I acted carefully so as not to miss anything. This is a story that might not be impossible in our not-so-distant future. I am truly happy that this story will be distributed worldwide on Netflix.

Director: Atsushi Yukawa
The anime "Fool Night" started from a single former shut-in submitting a proposal. After that, an amazing coincidence brought Sunrise and Shaft together, and I was approached because a certain director and Mr. Suzuki from Shaft recommended me. Those who have read the original manga will know that this work is extremely multifaceted. Despite this, unlike manga, the speed of moving through video is passive, and you cannot stop. So at first, I struggled with how to present it, but in the end, I believed in the viewers, in you, and tried to focus solely on painstakingly depicting time without overthinking. Tarkovsky also said that cinema is an art that sculpts time, and I realized on this set that those words can only be said because he believes in the audience. We are on the side of you who want to think. Rest assured that everyone making, supporting, and delivering the anime "Fool Night" project is doing their best work! If there's anything you think is not good, it's entirely my fault. Please look forward to it!

Original Creator: Kasumi Yasuda
"Houseplants lined up in a sterile office"—the architecture of the work "Fool Night" began because I wanted to see that scenery. I kept creating rooms I liked without any plan, and the building warped, but it didn't collapse, and somehow we made it to the anime adaptation. It is all thanks to the readers around the world who have supported Fool Night. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. And now that the altitude has become higher, I would be more than happy if even more distant people could find it through the anime. Please look forward to my speculative fiction.
