"Fool Night" Series Overview
[Introduction]
"Tenka"—a technology that implants seeds into the bodies of humans nearing death, turning them into plants. It was the means humanity chose to survive. A far-future Earth where thick clouds cover the sky, bringing nothing but winter and night. Most plants have withered away, and humanity, falling into a state of oxygen deprivation, builds a society dependent on the meager oxygen obtained through "Tenka." Tōshirō Kamiya, a young man suffering from poverty, keeps working hard to pay for taxes, living expenses, and medication for his mentally ill mother, but the ruthless reality gradually strips him of hope. "There is absolutely nothing... fun about being alive." In a world without light, the path he chose was to become a "Reika"—a plant into which a human has transformed. Will you continue to live as a human, or will you cast away your suffering and step into a new life as a plant? What kind of choice would you make?
