Jinshi Scene Added! Viewers React to Bai Niangniang Meeting in The Apothecary Diaries Anime Episode 53: "Jinshi's There Too!?" "It's Anime-Original!"

Episode 53 of the anime The Apothecary Diaries aired on October 30 (broadcasting in sequence). The episode featured an anime-original development with an added scene for Jinshi (voiced by Takeo Otsuka), and viewers were astonished, exclaiming, "It's the version with Jinshi!"

In Episode 53, "White Snake Immortal Maiden," Maomao (voiced by Aoi Yuki) was invited by Lahan (voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga) and Rikuson (voiced by Koki Uchiyama) to a theater to see a show featuring Bai Niangniang (voiced by Reina Ueda), a "mysterious immortal maiden" with white hair and red eyes who uses immortal arts.

Maomao did not notice, but Jinshi was also in the theater, his face hidden, having come to scout Bai Niangniang himself. As the theater grew lively with Bai Niangniang's masterful display of immortal arts, Jinshi left, openly wary, saying, "Bai Niangniang is dangerous."

In the novel edition published by Hero Bunko, this show scene contained no depiction of Jinshi. Meanwhile, in the version that was posted on Shōsetsuka ni Narō, Maomao in the same scene went to the show with Jinshi rather than with Lahan and the others, but that differed from how the anime depicted it this time.

In response to the anime-original depiction of Jinshi, viewers on social media were excited, posting comments such as "It's the version with Jinshi!" "Jinshi's there too!?" "There are people here who aren't in the original work," "It's anime-original!!!" "I don't think Jinshi's movements were spelled out around this part," and "The anime-original additions make it so rich."
