The Apothecary Diaries is an anime based on the light novel of the same name by Hyuganatsu. Its detective stories featuring Maomao, who ends up working as a "poison taster" in the rear palace, and the comical exchanges between Maomao and Jinshi proved popular and generated major buzz. The first cour of the TV anime's third season began airing in October 2026, with the second cour scheduled for April 2027, and the series' first-ever theatrical film is also set for release on December 11, 2026.
Episode 53 "White Snake Immortal Maiden" Synopsis
A "mysterious immortal maiden" said to have white hair like a white snake and red eyes, and to wield immortal arts, was the talk of the town. Maomao is invited by Lahan and Rikuson, a subordinate of Lakan, to a show featuring the rumored maiden, and goes along with them, half in doubt. In an eerie atmosphere, with guests wearing strange masks and veils gathered together, the immortal maiden Bai Niangniang appears on the stage to the sound of a gong. Maomao is invited up onto the stage by her and witnesses her immortal arts firsthand.
