――From an adult perspective, it’s almost enviable. After four years in the working world, meeting your school friends and finding everyone unchanged… That rarely happens in reality.

Umeda: Yeah, that’s pretty rare.

Kubo: Right, usually you’d hear, “You’ve really aged!” or something. (laughs)

Everyone: (laughs)

Umeda: Everyone’s got families and can’t just hang out so easily anymore.

――Within that reality, there’s something refreshing about the four of them saying, “Let’s go on an adventure together again!” By the way, did you record your lines together as a group of four?

Umeda: Yes. Each site has a different approach, but since this anime has lots of quick-paced dialogue and battle scenes, we’d go all out and have fun during the test runs—sometimes the recording style would change for the real take—but we made a conscious effort not to lose that sense of energy and excitement.

――Many of the dialogue scenes have a lively, rom-com-like atmosphere, while the battle scenes are intense.

Umeda: Like between Yorha and Alec, or the relationship between Clasia and Ornest.

Kubo: That’s right.

――Did you do any ad-libs during recording?

Kubo: We weren't really allowed to go too far off-script. (laughs)

Everyone: (laughs)

Kubo: Since the world isn’t our own, we couldn’t ad-lib recklessly. There were uncertainties about what actually exists in this world, so if anything, we tried to convey the characters’ feelings—like when something was painful or they were happy—through our breathing and other little ad-libbed nuances. We’re looking forward to seeing how much of that makes it into the broadcast.

Umeda: Especially Ornest was making noise in the background a lot.

Mizunaka: Whenever the character so much as moved, the staff would be like, “Should we record some ad-libs, just in case?” So I figure there might be a lot of scenes that match those ad-libs.
