Sora Amamiya, the voice actress known for representative roles such as Touka Kirishima in Tokyo Ghoul and Aqua in KONOSUBA: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!. A strong impression she leaves is her dedication to staying close to the characters she portrays. Fans widely recognize her practice of appearing at anime events and streaming programs in outfits inspired by the character she voices.

Because she often projects an image of purity and grandeur in blue costumes during her solo appearances as an artist, seeing her "transform" when aligning herself with a character creates a powerful sense of immersion in the work and the role.

One of those roles that could be called Amamiya's life work is Chizuru Mizuhara from the anime Rent-A-Girlfriend. With the long-running series set to broadcast its fifth season starting in April, we spoke with Amamiya in an interview about her approach to staying close to Chizuru and her perspective on the characters, including Chizuru herself.

—Amamiya-san, you often attend events and interviews in outfits that reflect Chizuru's image. I believe the clothes you chose for AnimeJapan 2026 recently were also selected with that in mind.

Amamiya: For AnimeJapan, I went with an image based on Spa Resort Hawaiians (which was visited in the story during Season 4). The outfit was styled like the resort's indoor wear, and I made the hairstyle similar to what she wore with her swimsuit.

—Is today's outfit also inspired by Chizuru?

Amamiya: Yes, I'm back in "Girlfriend Mode" today (laughs). I went with Chizuru's usual hairstyle and a one-piece dress like something she'd wear on a date. I chose one with a floral pattern to also give off a bit of that Hawaiians vibe.

—You really put a lot of thought into it!

Amamiya: Thank you. It’s a red outfit every time (the image color for Chizuru), but I make small changes each time, so I'd be happy if people compared it with my past outfits.

—I assume a stylist arranges the outfits, but do you communicate a specific image when ordering?

Amamiya: My stylists are people I've worked with for a long time, and they understand that I'm the type who really wants to match the character. So, they prepare everything with that assumption, without me even needing to check. Furthermore, they bring several outfits—for example, one closer to the Hawaiians look, one for Chizuru in "Girlfriend Mode," or one modeled after her loungewear. They provide multiple variations.

—That's wonderful teamwork!

Amamiya: The costume is always something I put a lot of heart into, so I'm very happy you asked about it!
