'She's Just Too Interesting': The 'Delicate' Hime's Shocking Reaction to a Bug! Though I Am an Inept Villainess Episode 1

The anime Though I Am an Inept Villainess began airing on July 12 (currently airing). The protagonist, Kou Reirin (voiced by Manaka Iwami / after the body swap, voiced by Natsumi Kawaida), a hime who at first glance seemed delicate and frail, shocked viewers with her reaction to a bug, sparking reactions on social media such as "That's not what I expected, lol" and "I love this girl!"

Reirin, the protagonist and a hime of the Kou family as well as the niece of the empress, has been physically frail since childhood and appears delicate at first glance. She is also praised as beautiful enough to be called "the crown prince's butterfly," and had won the favor of the crown prince, Ei Gyoumei (voiced by Makoto Furukawa).

In Episode 1, "Though I Am an Inept Villainess," Reirin is pushed off a high place and loses consciousness at the hands of Shu Keigetsu (voiced by Natsumi Kawaida / after the body swap, voiced by Manaka Iwami), a hime of the Shu family who held ill feelings toward her. When Reirin wakes up, she finds herself locked in a prison cell, having taken on Keigetsu's appearance. In fact, Keigetsu had used her own magic to swap bodies with Reirin, and had also placed a spell on Reirin -- now in Keigetsu's body -- that prevents her from telling anyone about the swap.

Keigetsu has been sentenced to execution for harming Reirin, putting Reirin -- now trapped in Keigetsu's body -- in a dire situation. Amid this, Keigetsu uses her magic to speak to Reirin in the cell, telling her, "Farewell, Kou Reirin. Surrounded by filthy rats, you may as well spend your time trembling at the sound of death approaching," before disappearing.

However, far from being afraid, Reirin realizes that her new body -- swapped with Keigetsu's -- is healthy, and begins jumping around and doing side-to-side hops in delight, exclaiming, "Amazing! What a healthy body!" Even when rats appear in the cell, Reirin, who was already used to rats from her herbal medicine experiments, isn't fazed at all. When a bug then appears, she catches it with her bare hands, exclaiming, "Found a bug!" before smiling and saying, "Got it! Food for the rats!"

Reirin's sheer toughness got viewers online buzzing, with comments like "She's really just too interesting," "Catching a bug is not what I expected, lol," "Catching it with her bare hands?! LOLOLOL," and "I love this girl!"
