■Creators Leading the Indie Anime Scene Discuss "The Reason to Keep Making Independent Anime"
During the talk session by the creators, while a wide range of topics was covered—including the thoughts embedded in their works, the background of production, unique expressions in indie anime, and creative struggles—the conversation also turned to why these creators, who are also involved in commercial projects, still continue to make independent anime.
Shingo Tamagawa of "PUPARIA" commented, "Indie anime is basically not asked for by anyone, so I think making it on your own accord comes with a personal sense of moral duty," sharing his resolve regarding the freedom of independent production and creating something that no one requested.
In addition, Nina Ai, who created "LUCA", reflected on the reason she worked on independent anime alongside commercial productions, saying, "The desire to create just kept building up inside me, and I made it because I felt I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn't make it right then." She further added, "'LUCA' was truly a work for myself, so it gave me an answer, in a way, as to how I want to live my life, and it became a very important time for me." As she spoke about her passion for creation that can only be faced through independent anime, other creators expressed their agreement.
Furthermore, Tomoki Misato, who directed "My Little Goat", spoke about what triggered his desire to make independent anime, saying, "I was deeply impacted by Director Hiroyasu Ishida's 'Fumiko's Confession' as an expression that moves the audience's hearts in a short duration," and mentioned that this spiritual influence is present in his own works, "My Little Goat" and "PUI PUI MOLCAR". When asked about how to distribute indie anime, he shared, "Personally, I think film festivals are a very important presence," and reflected on his career, saying, "I've received job offers through those connections, so if I hadn't applied to film festivals, I might not have been able to make 'PUI PUI MOLCAR', and I might not be standing here today as a director."
■"Poppin-Play Kitchen" Sequel Production Announced! Voice Actor Kazutomi Yamamoto Shares Behind-the-Scenes Dubbing Stories
Additionally, in the first part of the event, voice actor Kazutomi Yamamoto, who plays the role of P-chan in "Poppin-Play Kitchen", appeared as a special guest. He talked about behind-the-scenes stories during recording and character building, and the production of a sequel to "Poppin-Play Kitchen" was announced during the event.
Yamamoto commented with joy, "When we were recording, the sequel hadn't been decided yet. Since 'Poppin-Play Kitchen' is the very first project, I hope this serves as a catalyst that triggers more and more connections to future works." Furthermore, along with the introduction of a message from Director Zemyata, a newly drawn visual was unveiled, and he energized the venue by saying, "I don't even know what kind of story the sequel will be yet, but I believe there must be clues hidden inside this visual. I look forward to picking up those clues in detail."
■"Project PRISMation" Launches First Public Call for Proposals: Creators Cheer on the Next Generation
Also during the event, the launch of the first-ever public call for proposals for "Project PRISMation" was announced. The submission categories are "Original Short Anime Proposals" and "Expansion Plans" that depict the future beyond that, and anyone can apply regardless of age, gender, or nationality, whether professional or amateur. Proposals selected through a strict screening process by ABEMA will receive comprehensive support to deliver the work to the world, including production assistance for the original short anime, as well as promotion and commercial expansion.
In response to this, Misato commented, "If I were a student, I would absolutely want to apply. I'm envious." Tamagawa also cheered on next-generation creators, saying, "I hope people take this opportunity to go wild. Since you're doing it, I think it's better to do something out of the ordinary."
